This was the most electrifying live sports moment we’ve ever witnessed. The rest of the night unfolded magically. We saw several things we hadn’t seen before including a strange new technique at first base:

After the game, it was clear: this is not our father’s Padres. Chris Denorfia is not batting cleanup. The payroll doesn’t start with a four. This was the opening day for a brand new Padres team, and there’s reason to think things might get better yet:
