I really appreciate the index analysis and calling out so many things with such detail. While watching all of these games you tend to focus on your feelings more than anything, but it does help to get the actual facts behind what is happening. Appreciate your effort!

Incredible analysis here. Obviously some of this stuff is easier to point to in hindsight (ex: Mason McCoy drifting too far off the bag on the shallow fly to right field) than in the heat of the moment. But no doubt the usage of Vasquez by Shildt in the 5th inning on Sunday was something that he knew the stats ahead of time and the predictable outcome from leaving him in there to face the lefties could have & should have been avoided. Incredible insights Dylan, you're a freaking stud and I hope the padres coaching staff stumbles upon your gem of an article.

Now I know what Mike Shildt was talking about in one of his recent post-game chats when he said he, not his players, is the one who has to improve. But I wish he would ask Xander to try harder, too.

With Xander I wonder if he's having trouble tracking the ball. Going through his career he has done well in Mach/April, but also at home. Even in 2023 he had a 153wRC+ in March/April and a 138wRC+ at home. But come 2024 he had a 67wRC+ in March/April and 93 at home. Now this year he's at 90 and 66. Reasons could be how wrist, his approach, mechanics, etc and they are probably the more likely if I'm being honest. But, my theory is maybe the batter's eye. For his entire career at Fenway he had a green batter's eye. He signs with San Diego and plays all of 2023 with a green batter's eye. But starting in 2024 till now Petco's batter's eye is blue. The Padres switched the eye back to blue after many players complained about it being green(and layered), but maybe Xander was an outlier and the reverse is true?
