One note: Padres switch from Diaz to Maldonado in the 7th. It looks from the low strikes Estrada and Suarez got that Maldonado does a much better job of framing low pitches than Diaz.
I was just going to say that when I saw your comment. Different technique produced different results. Start with glove in the dirt and lift it up to catch the ball and bring it into the strike zone. Diaz had to jab at the unexpectedly inside pitch so his glove was going down when he caught the ball.
He ended up balancing the ledger in the 8th and 9th. It did seem petulant when he tossed Tati for saying very little. The funny thing is we may not have won the game if he didn't do that. That's baseball for you.

According to Umpire Scorecards, Johnson did a pretty excellent job, but Campy got jobbed twice.

"That really looked like he was asking for confirmation that a pitch way off the plate was going to in fact be called a ball."
I think Arraez was just signaling to Wells that he could throw the ball back before he would toss the bat
I appreciate and look forward to your newsletters. I learn so dang much. Thank you.
