Proper analysis as always, but I think we all know the changes recommended here are not coming. Sadly. Hopefully they can win even with all their self-imposed problems.
Excellent breakdown. Even in plain sense, it seems so obvious this team cannot rely on its pitching and small-ball approach as it once could. There is an opportunity for this team to evolve and attempt to win with an emphasis on power and punishing fastballs. Unfortunately, despite the data, the analysis, the eye test, and frankly commonsense, dont seem to be enough for a manager so constricted and defensive by his philosophy.
Look, the Wins and Losses dont lie, something is broke and instead of making excuses, why not try something different?
One quality of a great manager is standing by his guys, another important one is recognizing what isn't working and being WILLING to EVOLVE the ballclub when it truly matters most. Now.
Wasn't Arraez used most often in the leadoff spot last season? He seems more comfortable there. Tatis seems more comfortable in the 2 spot as well. I can't believe the ONLY reason they use this order is because they want to always be righty-lefty-righty-lefty etc with Tati-Arraez-Machado-Sheets/O'Hearn etc. We've had problems with LH pitchers all season & it's not just the LH hitters with the problems. There hasn't been much budging from the Tati-Arraez-Machado beginning to the lineup, even though Tati and Arraez aren't having great seasons (for them).
Not sure what your day job is but can you just compile these letters into a folder and mail it to Tony Gwynn Dr as your resume?

To push into the margins further, consider that Jackson Merrill is not the same either. Both Arraez and Merrill struggle mightily vs LHP this year.
Merrill looks like a shell of himself, rolling over grounder after grounder, chasing high fastballs way out of the zone, missing balls in the zone.
Lineup vs LHP could look like this:
Tatis
O’Hearn
Machado
Laureano
Sheets
Cronenworth
Iglesias
Fermin
Merrill
Vs RHP
Tatis
O’Hearn
Machado
Sheets - DH
Laureano
Cronenworth-SS
Arraez-2B
Fermin
Merrill
Man am I hoping that what I wrote here ages REALLY poorly.
