Great observation in the Team Chemistry part. My biggest fear with hos return is that ot would be the Tatis Show and screw up the chemistry on the field. Granted it's only one game, but this looks like he's bought into winning at all costs.

1. I appreciate the Tatis analysis because in my initial casual watching of the game, it was easy for me to see several first pitch outs and think ‘man, wish he had a better approach tonight.’ I didn’t even realize that was his approach in the last AB.

2. It would be interesting if some enterprising up and comer in the industry tried doing an ‘intent’ analysis on a smaller scale. Might require watching every AB of a team’s season (or maybe at least a couple teams) to jot down a new intent variable for each play. It would be a ton of work… but could change the way the game is played again.

Once again, thanks again for the write up, love your work!

Great observation. When you have the stars doing the little things, it drives accountability across the board. I’m sure everyone acknowledged Tatis’ execution / sacrifice which will reinforce it with him and with others. Acee’s article on the culture in the SDUT today is a great companion to this article.

Gives me hope that it’s real and sustainable. Shildt is creating a “Padre” way to play, an identity. Creates a situation where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. 2023 was a case where the whole was significantly less than the sum of the parts.
